There are a few protocol improvements we should explore for 0.1.0:

• for single-host/fast connection use cases we should consider supporting raw canonical ABI values alongside component model value encoding.
• currently instance and function are sent as strings in invocations. We could optimize that by computing the hash of the instance - function could probably just be an index

Hello, are there any plans on implementing this? I would like to use wRPC for single-host plugin system, but currently it would involve additional serialization + deserialization while communicating between components. It looks like it might be just beneficial to pass Val's between components.

Currently, there is no plan regarding this, but contributions are certainly welcome.
If you are using wasmtime, I would just stick with Val's for now. You can take a look at wrpc-runtime-wasmtime for inspiration.

In order to move away from Val's we'd need additional APIs in wasmtime allowing access to the stack
